our vision.
At Christ Church Toxteth Park, we believe our calling is to serve God by loving our community and opening our doors wide to all…
Jesus-centred
Jesus calls us to join in the Kingdom of God, now - a dynamic kingdom where we seek for justice and everyone is treated with dignity - a kingdom of kindness, a kingdom of Love.
We aim to be both edgy and distinctive, echoing the spirit of our church building, which architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner described as “highly original, with touches of roguery.”
Above all, we seek to be a community where everyone is welcomed, included, and deeply valued.
Our Values
Our faith is shaped by what author Brian McLaren calls Generous Orthodoxy—a Christ-centred, radical approach to living out the gospel with openness and humility.
Our ethos resonates deeply with the values of the Iona Community, a modern ecumenical movement that draws inspiration from the ancient Celtic Church and the monastic traditions of Iona, a small island off the west coast of Scotland.
We also stand firmly as an Inclusive Church, committed to:
Rejecting discrimination of any kind—whether based on economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race, or sexuality.
Welcoming and serving all people in the name of Jesus Christ.
Remaining faithful to Scripture while proclaiming the gospel in ways that speak afresh to each generation.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us deeper into the love of Christ.
Our Purpose
Everything we do flows from three core purposes:
To Glorify God as a worshipping community.
To be a creative and community hub, offering space, hospitality, and inspiration to our parish and beyond.
To be a place of sanctuary, especially for the vulnerable and displaced.
