Christ Church: Living Faith, Loving Creation, Seeking Justice
Christ Church is a fully inclusive community where both church and local residents come together in conversation and action for climate and social justice. Some of our members carry this work into their daily vocations, while as a church we partner with organisations such as Together Liverpool, Faiths4Change, and the Sefton Park Forum. Individual members are also active in groups including Christian Climate Action, Greenpeace, Access to Justice, the Green Party, Lark Lane Community Association, Feeding Liverpool, and Micah Liverpool.
We learn and grow together—through shared experiences, liturgy, music, and reflection on scripture—both in structured settings and in the informal moments of everyday community life.
Caring for Our Building and Community
The wet and windy UK climate has taken its toll on our historic building. We are currently undertaking a building review as part of the Fit for Mission process, and in the coming months we will invite the community to take part in consultations about the building’s future.
Our Linnet Lane building is a vital space for worship and mission. Hosting the Pantry allows us to share resources, reduce waste, and build relationships with people and organisations across the city. Clothes, shoes, and book swaps promote reuse and recycling, while one volunteer’s skill in sewing and darning—seen in our handmade door curtains—inspires us to repair and cherish items rather than discard them.
A Garden Restored
Once covered in tarmac, Christ Church Garden is now a thriving, well-managed green space tended by a skilled gardener and a team of volunteers. From late spring to early autumn, regular gardening sessions keep it beautiful for people and hospitable for wildlife. Seasonal planting, bird and insect homes, dead hedges, an open compost heap, and hedgehog houses all support biodiversity. Thanks to our partnership with compostUK.org, local residents can compost uncooked food waste in three rotating wooden boxes, producing rich compost for church and community gardens.
Sustainable Living and Fair Trade
We are committed to fair trade, using Co-op coffee and Suma tea, and shopping at the Co-op whenever possible. As global citizens, we challenge one another to live lightly on the earth: many members grow and share fruit and vegetables, some follow vegetarian or vegan diets, and most cook from scratch while minimising food and water waste. Homemade bread, cakes, and biscuits are a staple at our gatherings, with gluten-free communion bread freshly baked for each service.
Walking Together in Faith and Action
We continue our journey side by side—working for justice, living with kindness and humility, supporting one another through life’s challenges, and nurturing our love for God’s creation.
