Protecting Our Environment – a Poem

A poem by the people of Christ Church Toxteth Park. Put together & narrated by Sam Illingworth…

Listen here…

What should we be doing as a church to protect our environment?

To help us to cherish and protect the beautiful earth God has created

We need to get everyone involved;

In order to act as a carbon neutral community:

We should be explaining how individuals can live a carbon neutral or low carbon life,

We should be explaining the recycling boxes at the back and what happens to them,

We should be explaining to all members of our church what we are currently doing,

We should be helping

Those who can’t be carbon neutral due to disability or ill health.

What should we be doing as a church to protect our environment?

Working with the local community on eco issues,

Using the church building,

Buying local.

Reduce, refuse, reuse,

Recycle, repurpose,

Repeat.

Reduce, refuse, reuse,

Recycle, repurpose,

Repeat.

Reduce, refuse, reuse,

Recycle, repurpose,

Repeat

What should we be doing as a church to protect our environment?

Use low energy light bulbs and only

Have them switched on when necessary.

Use recycled paper and

Save it on services and notices.

Use more time on management of the grounds,

Start composting vegetable matter.

Use loose leaf tea instead of tea bags,

Increase use of Fairtrade goods.

In the garden

We could catch the rain

Collect it to reuse;

Reduce the use of plastic bags,

With reusable containers for soup

And cotton bags for food.

What should we be doing as a church to protect our environment?

What are we doing when not at church?

Explain how we do it.

Make visible what we have done.

Have this simple declaration:

We should leave the earth in a better condition

For the future,

Whilst sharing it fairly with all.
